Common questions

What ear training is, and how Tonality fits into it.

What is ear training? +

Ear training is the skill of recognising what you hear — telling a major third from a perfect fifth, or a minor chord from a diminished one, without seeing the notes. It is what lets you work out a song by ear, or reach for the right chord because you already know how it will sound.

Do I need to read music? +

No. Every exercise is audio first: you hear a sound and pick what it was. Tonality is built for producers and self-taught musicians, not for sight-reading.

Is Tonality free? +

Yes. Every module is included on the free plan, and no credit card is required. Plus unlocks the deeper levels — advanced intervals, modes and extended chords — for players who want to keep pushing.

How long does a session take? +

A normal session runs a handful of exercises and takes a few minutes. Blitz mode is faster still, if you only have a moment. Difficulty adapts to your rating, so sessions stay hard enough to be worth doing.
